Anzio - Rome
36,8 Nm
(total 162.8 Nm)
wind mostly 6 Bf
We departed from Anzio around noon, heading north. The next stop was Rome, specifically Fiumicino, right next to the airport.
We sailed on the motor, but with a tailwind, we helped with the jib. And as the wind picked up, so did the waves, definitely reaching two meters and sometimes more.
We sailed into the canal in Fiumicino and tried to dock at Darsena di Fiumicino, but the shallow depth prevented it. Even with the wind and neutral gear, we were not mowing. It ment we grounded. However, the skipper was going very slowly, so the grounding was more like a gentle rest, and with reverse gear, we easily backed out. The crew didn't even notice :-)
We picked up the German teacher couple right in the canal, where it was waving nicely. But they both made it on board safely, and we quickly left. From the canal, we headed about 5 Nm south to Porto Turistico di Roma - Ostia.
A large marina with lots of boats, and we found a spot too. We were protected from waves, but the wind was still blowing. Docking stern-to the pier was with one contact with the neighboring sailboat on the leeward side. But the sides of both boats were fine.
The first joint dinner of the complete crew was marked by tears. Both the skipper's aglio oglio and a few nice stories did their job :-)
